Lochcarron
- locality
• Outstanding natural beauty with excellent wildlife
• Centrally located for visiting or touring the Western Highlands
Enjoying superb, uninterrupted views across Loch Carron to the glen and hills of Attadale, it is a fantastic central base for touring and enjoying the western Highlands and Islands.
To the east are Inverness and the Black Isle. Inverness is the capital of the highlands, gateway the great glen and Caledonian canal. The Black Isle offers some of the best opportunity to watch dolphin, a large pod of which live in the Moray Firth – though dolphin are regular visitors in Loch Carron also.
A short trip south is the village of Plockton, complete with its palm trees, and Kyle of Lochash. Kyle provides the link to the western isles, with its spectacular bridge to Skye and ferries to the Outer Hebrides. Don’t miss Elgol when on Skye for unsurpassed views of the Cuillins.
West is the Applecross peninsula, featured in the 2009 BBC series Monty Hall’s Great Adventure. The drive to Applecross over Beallach na ba (the pass of the cattle) is a must and you wont be disappointed. Its adrenalin fuelled and the views are magnificent as is the coastal drive around the north of the peninsula.
To the north are Gairloch and Ullapool, both fine villages featuring good shopping, eating and wildlife tours and well worth a visit.
Lochcarron village is well serviced by all the ammenities a visitor would expect (see right) and provides an excellent central base for your holiday.
